This actual structural report is an
example of an extensive analysis for a client who
wanted to remove a long interior wall in order to create
a very large open space that extended up two levels
to a cathedral ceiling. Most repairs to structural
defects found during a home inspection are far less
involved, usually just requiring some minor bracing;
however, the minor bracing still requires engineering
judgment and a few calculations to verify that the bracing
actually does restore the initial strength in the area
of the defect. Most structural defect repairs
are in the range of $200 to $1000 if completed by a
handyman or carpenter. If the client does the
repair, then the material cost is usually in the range
of $75 to $250.
